Labor Day 2012

In observance of Labor Day, the Law Library will be closed on Monday, September 3. Weekend hours remain unchanged.

Want more information about Labor Day? The U.S. Department of Labor website is a good place to start. The DOL also provides statutory, regulatory, and general information about issues that come under its jurisdiction, including:  wage & hours, occupational health & safety, worker’s compensation, whistleblowers, and family leave. Find a “Summary of the Major Laws of the Department of Labor” here.

Tragedy in Norway: Breivik Sentenced

Just over a year ago, I shared information here about the tragic events in Norway and the legal process that would follow. Today the Norwegian court found Breivik sane and therefore legally responsible for killing 77 people. This decision will keep Breivik in prison for a least 21 years but likely more, as this maximum punishment under Norwegian Law may be enhanced if he is deemed a danger to society.

Hotmail Email Accounts Banned at CALI.org Website

If you have registered with CALI using a Hotmail email address you must change your CALI Account to list another email address from a different provider. Unfortunately, CALI has had significant problems with spam from Hotmail.  CALI has provided the following information for Hotmail users to modify their accounts:

(1) Send an email to webmaster@CALI.org with your name and a non-Hotmail email address that you wish to use with your CALI account. The switch over will have to be done manually so there will be some delay.
(2) Create a new account using a non-Hotmail email address. Please note if you choose this option, you will lose all access to previous lesson run information.  You will also need a GMU authorization code, available in the Reference Office

Visit Our Student-Only Study Area

The library has reserved seating on our recently renovated fourth floor for George Mason Law Student use only. There are several tables available in this area and we will soon be adding four large double-sided study carrels.  In addition, the Fourth Floor has five study rooms.

And, if you are a GMU Law Student and “Like” the library on Facebook, you are eligible for a free insulated lunch bag or water bottle courtesy of Bloomberg Law, Westlaw, or LexisNexis.  Come get yours in the Library Reference Office, Monday – Friday 9:00am-5:00pm. Supplies are limited!
